Outdoor Hockey
Last week Derek was able to play in his first professional outdoor game. It was hosted by Olympia, the team in Ljubljana Sloveia, and in an old soccer stadium. It was quite cold that day, so the glass was really foggy, so it was hard to see and take good photos. The boys played well, however they lost in overtime. Derek is still having an outstanding season, and is "tearing it up" as they would say back home. I am so proud of him, and so glad we are here in Austria!! Go VSV!!!
Christmas, and visitors my favorite time of year!!
I am sorry, I am so behind on blogging. We have been so busy the last month. We were able to have visitors here almost the whole month of December. First, Derek's best friend and best man in our wedding Brandon came to visit. He is a recent graduate of Chiropractic school, and he was gifted the trip to come see us for graduation. It was his first visit to Europe, and we were so happy to show him around. We toured all the local spots, and made our first trip to the Slovenian Coast. Boy was it gorgeous!! We got there right at sunset and were able to get some gorgeous photos. We defiantly want to go back in August next season. Brandon also got to experience a "derby" game, or rival game against Klagenfurt. It was pretty crazy. The fans over here are so much fun!! They just really love their hockey!
Our second set of visitors were our friends J-P and Christine from Edmonton. J-P played hockey with Derek in Spokane for the chiefs, and then again together in Edmonton for the U of A. They are two of the nicest people we know. It was so great to see them again, and show them where we live. I met them in Vienna right before Christmas, and we were able to spend a couple days there. We of course toured the Christmas Markets, which are world famous, and also did a few museums. We then headed back to Villach on Christmas Eve. We had a team get together Christmas Eve, which was a blast. For Christmas we did the Ryan family tradition, and had a prime rib. It was our first time cooking one and it turned out delicious!! We were also able to take them to a few hockey games, they then spent a day in Salzburg before returning back for one last hockey game, and Derek's surprise birthday party. My first time throwing a surprise party, and it was a success! Derek had no idea!!
